Database Theory (1DV013)

Time & Place Compare here (1DV013). In general, the lectures will take place in room D2269, each Monday from 10:15 till 12:00.
Teaching Period I (2010-08-30 till 2010-11-07)
Assessment Assignments and oral examinations. Oral examinations will take place in week 45.
Prerequisites At least one year of university studies (equal to 60 higher education credits) including a basic course in data structures as well as good programming experiences.

Topic Database Theory



This course is intended to give students a solid background in database systems and theory, with a focus on relational database management systems. Topics include general information on database systems, data modeling (E/R model, relational data model), database design theory, data definition and manipulation languages (SQL), and database programming interfaces. In addition to these traditional topics, we cover some advanced topics, such as visual data mining (see above images).

  • Assignment 2 (Deadline for the theoretical part: 2010-10-04; extended deadline for the practical part: 2010-10-13)
  • Assignment 3 (Deadline: 2010-10-13 (theory))
  • Assignment 4 (Deadline: 2010-10-28 and for the presentation between 2010-10-25 (in case you are quick) and 2010-10-30 based on individual meetings with Antonina Khairova)
