Information Visualization - Features Comparison for a Database of Mobile Phones
The interactive visualization from below highlights the different features and capabilities of multiple phones in a dataset of modern-day mobile phones. The various features are organized horizontally and groupped in categories. The vertical lines present the values for the different features.
All the complex red lines represent all the phones and their features. A particular line represents only the element of that particular phone. In case one or more features are missing, the red line will touch on the horizontal "Missing data" line. The distribution of a particular feature in the dataset if highlighted by circles with a size that's proportional to the actual ratio of phones with that functionality.
The verticlar lines can encode 3 types of attributes: boolean (true-false : red and orange circles), enumeration (blue circles) and distributed (unknown number of values). The alpha level of the lines can be further controlled with a slider in oder to highlight denser areas, i.e. features that are more common in the dataset. The phones' distribution (red lines) can be narrowed down further by selecting a range of values for each feature (vertical line). This is achieved by clicking on the corresponding gray vertical bars twice to set the new high and low margins for it.
Additionally, you can select two phones from the comboboxes to compare to each other and to the overall dataset. The features of the selected phones will also be displayed as two lines with additional values for each feature. The color of the lines can be modified. Furthermore, for the selected phones, if information is available that is not part of the feature visualization, these descriptions will be shown in the two textboxes in the lower left and right. Also, you can reset your visualization or save it as an image.
